About Us

Helping the Local Community with Cancer Needs

The Tour of the Litchfield Hills has grown annually which supports us in our mission to benefit The Cancer Care Fund of the Litchfield Hills and we’re proud to note that the Tour has become the biggest benefactor of the Fund! The Fund supports cancer patients with care, treatment, education, and prevention programs. It also awards financial assistance to patients for emergencies such as food, rent, transportation, utilities, and medications not covered by insurance, or other critical needs as determined by clinicians or case managers.

Our History and How We’ve Grown

We recognize that we couldn’t have gotten to where we are today without years of hard work and dedication from Tim Grieco and his crew at the old “Tommys” bike shop in Torrington. Tim organized the first “Tour de Torrington” in 1989 and ran that wonderful event for 13 years. After 2002, Tim decided to take a much-deserved break and move on and the Tour de Torrington disappeared.

In the spring of 2004, some of us had a discussion about what a shame it was that The Tour was no more. That discussion led to an effort to reconstitute a committee of like-minded individuals and see what could be accomplished. We decided on a new name and we forged ahead determined to make a difference. That core group of highly motivated volunteers defined the Tour’s early years, and many of the organizers from back then are still involved! Right from the beginning, the group wanted any funds raised to benefit first, the cancer community, and second, have an impact locally. We chose The Cancer Care Fund of the Litchfield Hills, Inc. and since 2004 we’ve raised almost two million dollars for the fund.

Can't Wait to See You This Year!

We’ve generally served about 1000 riders each year and have gradually tried to work out the kinks. We’ve improved the registration process, SAG support, food service, and hospitality. We continue to respond to riders’ constructive criticism and seek out more ways we can strike the balance between making this a great ride and raising the most funds possible for our beneficiary.

We remain 100% volunteer and are very dependent on our generous sponsors to help us meet the needs of the riders and we thank them again here!

So, from all of us to all of you riders out there; Thanks for your support, and we look forward to seeing you in August.
